Members of the Hartlepool Footlight Youth Theatre prepare for the shows.

A FESTIVAL of song and dance is set to mark the culmination of months of hard work by around 80 young people in Hartlepool.

Every member of the Hartlepool Footlight Youth Theatre will be involved in the production which is to be staged at the Town Hall Theatre on October 21 and 22.

Theatre founder Paul Thompson said: “The ages of the performers range from 5-18 and everyone has put in so much effort to ensure that the show is a success.

“All of our work at our Tuesday and Thursday evening classes involves preparing for the show and now that it is getting so close everyone is becoming really excited and can’t wait to showcase their talents.”

The Festival of Song and Dance will feature an entertaining mix of popular, contemporary and traditional music, including songs by Radiohead, Coldplay and Harry Belafonte.

Performances will take place at 7pm on both Friday October 21 and Saturday October 22. A matinee show is also scheduled for 2pm on the Saturday.

Tickets which cost £8 or £7 for concessions are now available from the Town Hall theatre box office on (01429) 890000.

Paul added: “We hope people will turn out in force for the three shows and we promise that they won’t be disappointed. Big audiences would also be a fitting reward for all of the cast members who have worked so hard.”

The Hartlepool Footlight Youth Theatre is a non-profit making organisation with registered charity status. It is based permanently within the premises of Hartlepool Families First in Greatham Street and sessions take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-7.30pm or 8.30pm, depending upon members’ ages.

The theatre is constantly on the look out for new members and anyone interested in joining can obtain more information by logging on to www.thefootlights.net or telephoning (01429) 867060.
